Website of the Week: Smashing Magazine

Check out Smashing Magazine

Smashing Magazine is currently on my RSS feed and one of my favourite websites for tips on CSS and web design. Provides excellent tips and tutorials from icons, usability to CSS tools and techniques. I find I am going there more and more for clean and elegant design ideas.

For you web developers out there, don’t forget the Web Developer’s Handbook. It’s a starting point that provides hundreds of links to web resources.

Toronto Subway Ride

subway

So I took the TTC subway this morning. I am lucky enough to live and work downtown and I pretty much walk everywhere. I can’t stand taking the subway. Something about being like a sardine in a jam packed box just doesn’t sit well with me. It’s not that bad…but it’s not that great either.

Walking down the stairs to the subway, some dude behind me races down as fast as possible trying to catch the subway that isn’t there. It’s not like these subways are on silent and make no noise whatsoever. You’d think if you have any bit of hearing left over, you could simply just tell if there is a subway there or not. Not to mention the flow of people walking up the stairs so you don’t have to be a jackass and race down the stairs. Some people just have a total lack of awareness. Don’t know what to think of these people other than:

For some reason I find this hilarious.

No Smoking in Cars Now?

Interesting new developments in Toronto for smokers. After being banned everywhere including restaurants and bars (great idea!), are inside cars next?

http://www.thestar.com/article/307005

Ontario could become the latest province to ban people from smoking in cars carrying kids after Premier Dalton McGuinty vowed today to take a “second look” at adopting legislation he once called a slippery slope.

As a non smoker, sounds good to me! The less smokers the better. Nothing is worse than smelling the second hand smoke around town. I can’t believe people would smoke with kids in the car. Then again, the news is no stranger to bad parents and people who only think about themselves.

smoking

Why don’t they think about banning the act of throwing cigarette butts on the ground? Unfortunately, our society is so used to the fact of people just flicking cigarette butts anywhere and everywhere that is has somehow become “accepted”. It’s sad and a disgusting reality now. Just the other day, a guy from my apartment was walking his dog (I’ll be posting about this another time) and smoking. Just before entering the apartment building, finishes off the smoke and then just tosses the butt into the grass out front. I am no scientist but I doubt this helps the earth. To top it off, there’s a little cigarette disposal box right there too. Thanks buddy! There’s a simple lack of consideration for other people.

People talk about saving the environment but don’t talk about the fact that there are probably millions of cigarette butts trying to biodegrade on concrete.

It has begun…

Ok so I finally bit the bullet and started my own blog. We’ll see if I can keep this up. Basically you’ll see just about anything from sports, tech, gaming, and whatever else comes off the top of my head.

Don’t get used to the design either. It’s just a free theme I found (gotta love wordpress)  but I’ll be working on the site design and functionality at some point too.

Enjoy and feel free to comment.
