It’s raining, so don’t be that guy
You know who I am talking about. It’s raining, you are walking around downtown Toronto with lots of other people and there’s the guy with the big golf umbrella, being in everyones way. The umbrella bumps into everyone else’s umbrella or you basically have to jump out of it’s way. They have no clue about anything else beyond themselves. Probably talking too loud on their cell phone. Don’t be that guy.
Decline of Newspapers
Great TechCrunch article “Decline Of US Newspapers Accelerating“. I think the same can be said about Canadian Newspapers. Come to think of it, I can’t even remember the last time I have read or even paid for an actual newspaper. Now I just read it online.
Online photo editing provided by Adobe
Adobe just released a pretty cool web app that allows users to upload photos to their account and use a flash based online tool to edit it. Obviously not as robust as their flagship Adobe Photoshop but still pretty cool. Great use of Flash.
Check it out. They provide 2GB of free space for your photos: https://www.photoshop.com/express/landing.html Fun to play with but I doubt I’ll ever use it.
What’s going on with Cuba?
Remember when Cuba Gooden Jr won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for Jerry Maguire? Yeah SHOW ME THE MONEY! Someone should have SHOW HIM A NEW AGENT! Every since that win, he’s done a string of bad movies and now I see him on a Hanes commercial with Michael Jordan! Sad, just sad…it’s almost painful. I think I predicted the downfall way back when he decided to do that Snow Dogs movie.
Bran Theory #458: People who walk slow, walk in the middle
Is it just me or people who walk slow alway seem to walk right in the middle of the sidewalk? or worse, don’t walk in a straight line just to make it hard to pass. If you are slow, stay to the right! Basic common sense….
Bran Theory #894: People are lazy
For those of you who live in an apartment building know and love the garbage chute. It can’t get any easier than taking the trash out by putting your slippers on and walking down the hallway to toss it down the chute.
Today I went to throw some garbage out and here’s what I see:

A surprise left by a lazy ass neighbour
How lazy can people be when they can’t even shove a tiny bag down a chute! Let me tell you this is not an isolated incident either. Sad, very sad.
Pick Up After Your Dog
People, please pick up after your dog. How lazy can you possibly be? It’s disgusting, just like that pile of cigarette butts on the lawn.

How to get Free High Def Television Channels Over the Air
As some of you may or may not have heard, I recently canceled my Rogers Cable Television service. After doing some online research, found that there are many HD Over the Air (OTA) signals that are free for use if you have the right equipment can be setup very easily. The number of channels and signal strength depends on your location. The ideal location is if you have the ability to aim an antenna south with line of sight to the CN tower. Lucky for me, my apartment is up on the 18th floor and faces south, and I have some sight of the CN tower so I thought I would give this a shot after seeing that you can make a “HD antenna” using a piece of wood and coat hangers!
Things you need:
- HD capable television (obviously)
- If your HD tv does not have a built in ATSC tuner, you will need to buy a separate set top box. Ebay is a good place to find one for about $100.
- Screws, coat hangers, piece of wood and maybe 20 minutes of your time
Follow the simple tutorial to build your own HD antenna:

The final result (sorry about the quality….I had to take them with the camera phone):
Looks kind of ghetto but suprisingly works great.
Just about every sport looks great now.
In the end, I got 20 totally OTA channels with 12 in HD. Very happy with the results. Once you go HD, you can’t go back!

Anyone Else Sick of the TTC?
After reading things like this and also reading somewhere that half of the TTC budget is just to cover employee wages, I am sick of hearing about TTC strikes and their constant complaining considering the service they provide hasn’t been up to standard in a long time. I am not the only one who thinks this:
It’s not the 40s anymore, I don’t even know why we even need unions other than to drain the economy and create a work atmosphere that does not encourage employees who already have inflated salaries, to work their best. Time to be like the rest of us who have to earn their job security.
