Goodbye Rogers Cable
I hate Rogers. I also hate the fact that they own me. I have Internet, Wireless and Cable Television with them, paying over $150/month. Well today, I canceled Rogers Cable Television and it felt great. Why you ask? Well I managed to get free over the air HD tv channels that look great and once you go HD, you can’t go back. Coming soon will be how I got those free LEGAL HD channels. Stay tuned.
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, it’s been snowing a hell of a lot lately.
- TheStar.com: There have been 600 collisions on GTA highways since the storm began yesterday, including more than 200 since 6 a.m. today, said OPP Const. Dave Woodford, who was showing a little frustration with drivers who won’t slow down and drive to conditions.
It’s no secret that when it snows, suddenly people don’t know how to drive and all news outlets repeat the same thing. SLOW DOWN. A little difficult I guess for this fast paced society, but you have to be a dumb ass to drive like you did in the summer or even wipe off your damn car. I always pay special attention to those cars that only brush off their front and rear windshield - just barely for that matter because I want to see what a douche bag looks like.
One thing that news outlets never mention is the fact that once it snows, suddenly people forget how to too.
5 things you do that is shear stupidity while walking in snow
- You wear high heels
- You walk right in the middle of the sidewalk that is even less wide due to the snow banks on each side so you are basically in the way of everyone … and of course you walk slow or are also pulling some cart or wheeled bag
- You have no balance whatsoever as it takes an hour to walk over a slight patch of ice. People, it’s not that hard.
- You think that cars can stop and turn on a dime so you stand on the very edge of the corner of the sidewalk while waiting for the light to change (this can probably apply all year around - think bus mirror and your head)
- You use an umbrella when it snows (I’ll let old people get away with this but if you are under 40, forgetaboutit)

Any others to add?
Will it be Gigg or MicroDigg?
Rumour has it that both Google and Microsoft are on the verge of making an offer for the social news site Digg.
Google, Microsoft Said To Be Preparing Bids For Digg - TechCrunch
And despite a number of false starts, this time a sale looks like it might actually happen, and soon. We hear from a source very close to the deal that four companies are in heavy due diligence with Digg - two media/news companies, and two big Internet companies - Google and Microsoft. And Google and Microsoft are on the verge of making their bids.
Interesting developments and I love reading the comments on Digg about it. Obviously many are opposed to the idea of Digg “selling out”. How can you blame them for selling? My only problem with it is that it’s not me!
Facebook vs University Cheating
Interesting developments in regards to cheating and social sites such as the ever popular Facebook.
: Study groups may be a virtual trademark of the Ivory Tower – but a virtual study group has been slammed as cheating by Ryerson University.
Ever since the Internet became mainstream, cheating has always been a tough battle for schools an university. If I remember right, it began with online papers/essay sites which would actually sell so called “university grade” term papers and reports from a database or sometimes would simply write one based on the topic submitted.
Now with the popularity of social sites, it’s even easier to communicate and share ideas but what’s the difference with a Facebook group vs a traditional study group? The same information is shared except that it can reach wider audiences more easily. Are universities just behind in the times in recognizing the new ways that students study, meet and share ideas? Facebook is an easy scapegoat due to the shear popularity of it but doing a google search, I sure you can find thousands of other ways to cheat online if you really wanted to.
Kobe is an MVP but still an AHOLE
This is simply hilarious.
I am the first to admit that I have never liked Kobe Bryant. He is however pretty much the best player in the NBA right now. No doubt a MVP year but ever since that “incident” in Colorado, I think the world has seen his true colours. The video is just another example of that. For the life of me, I can’t even think of a reason for it. Maybe the towel was in front of him on the floor and he didn’t want to step on it and just grabbed it and tossed it without looking. It’s still funny as hell. Imagine what the woman must be thinking after getting to be on court and getting Kobe game sweat all over her face as a souvenir. Maybe she can sell it on eBay!
RIP Jeff Healey
http://www.thestar.com/News/Obituary/article/308736
Legendary Toronto blues guitarist and old-style jazz aficionado Jeff Healey died yesterday in Toronto’s St. Joseph’s Hospital after a lifelong battle with a rare form of cancer — retinoblastoma — that blinded him in his first year. He was 41.
Shocked to hear the news tonight. I think I still might even have his cd “See the Light’ in a box somewhere. He was a wicked blues guitar player for his unique style.
5 Things I Learned about Lacrosse
I was lucky enough to go to the Toronto Rock lacrosse game last night. Actually, it was my uncle who was lucky since he won the free tickets and I got to tag along. Never been to a National Lacrosse League (NLL) game before. I few friends of mine have season tickets and have always said it’s a good time. From what I saw last night, I can see why. It’s a always good start when there’s a fight in the first 2 seconds of the game, not to mention the Rock pulling out the win in the last few minutes of the game. Here are my top 5 things I learned about lacrosse in no particular order:
1. Rock and Roll isn’t dead
Took me by surprise when AC/DC’s “thunderstruck” kept playing over the loud speakers while they were playing the game. The I realized that the music never stops. It felt like I just put in MuchMusic’s “Big Shiny Tunes 2″ in my cd player.
2. It’s almost impossible to tell what is and what isn’t a penalty
There’s so much chaos with all the cross checking and smacking with the stick, when they call a penalty, it’s impossible to even tell when and where it happens. I guess you have to trust the refs.
3. Lots of kids
I imagine since tickets are probably half the cost of a Leafs game, I can see why parents bring their kids and family to these games. Not only is it cheaper but seems a hell of a lot funner since everyone actually gets into the game and acts like fans. Not the typical Toronto fans who give the golf clap during hockey and baseball games. Seems like the tons of kids there were having a great time too.
4. Barely any breaks between quarters
Each quarter, there is probably only 2:30 min for a break and half time is only 15 minutes. Games go by quick so you don’t spend time waiting around. Good idea.
5. I wish I played lacrosse back in the day
After watching a “real” game, I wish I played or at least tried lacrosse rather than that one day in high school gym class. Isn’t this supposed to be one of Canada’s Official Sports?
