Microsoft Bid for Yahoo Off - Let the games begin

So it appears that Microsoft has withdrawn their bid for Yahoo. A bit of a surprise that Microsoft didn’t try a hostile takeover, but I guess that would be business suicide considering Yahoo’s continuing refusal to work a deal with them. Could only get worse if MS attempts something hostile. Good on them not to will to Yahoo’s weak attempt to push the share price up. Now let the speculation run wild as to what will happen next with Yahoo.

All I can say is that there will be some interesting developments from some of the biggest players in technology and could have some serious aftershocks throughout the industry. Stay tuned!

Gotta love google maps

CHCH-DT (known as E!) HD is now up and running

I first reported that Global HD is now up and running. To my surprise and pleasure, another channel has been added to my free OTA HD collection. CHCH-DT or better known as E! which is based in Hamilton is now in HD, mapped to 18-1. To be honest, I never really watched it before but with it being in HD, why the hell not! Seems my decision to cancel Rogers cable is starting to make more and more sense.

Global HD is now up and running!

I first gave a tutorial on how to get Free HD over the air. The one major local Toronto HD channel was missing: Global TV. Well they have been testing for the last week or so to meet a deadline of April 17th, 2008. It appears to be met! So far it looks like Global news is in HD, although not full widescreen. At this point, I have pretty much all the channels I need. Only thing that I miss is TSN and Sportsnet….but I guess that’s what the Internet is good for.

What’s going on with Cuba?

Remember when Cuba Gooden Jr won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for Jerry Maguire? Yeah SHOW ME THE MONEY! Someone should have SHOW HIM A NEW AGENT! Every since that win, he’s done a string of bad movies and now I see him on a Hanes commercial with Michael Jordan! Sad, just sad…it’s almost painful. I think I predicted the downfall way back when he decided to do that Snow Dogs movie.

Anyone Else Sick of the TTC?

After reading things like this and also reading somewhere that half of the TTC budget is just to cover employee wages, I am sick of hearing about TTC strikes and their constant complaining considering the service they provide hasn’t been up to standard in a long time. I am not the only one who thinks this:

TTC Union: the Propaganda Way - blogTO

It’s not the 40s anymore, I don’t even know why we even need unions other than to drain the economy and create a work atmosphere that does not encourage employees who already have inflated salaries, to work their best.  Time to be like the rest of us who have to earn their job security.

Goodbye Rogers Cable

I hate Rogers. I also hate the fact that they own me. I have Internet, Wireless and Cable Television with them, paying over $150/month. Well today, I canceled Rogers Cable Television and it felt great. Why you ask? Well I managed to get free over the air HD tv channels that look great and once you go HD, you can’t go back. Coming soon will be how I got those free LEGAL HD channels. Stay tuned.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow

Snow walk

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, it’s been snowing a hell of a lot lately.

Storm stalls road, air travel - TheStar.com: There have been 600 collisions on GTA highways since the storm began yesterday, including more than 200 since 6 a.m. today, said OPP Const. Dave Woodford, who was showing a little frustration with drivers who won’t slow down and drive to conditions.

It’s no secret that when it snows, suddenly people don’t know how to drive and all news outlets repeat the same thing. SLOW DOWN. A little difficult I guess for this fast paced society, but you have to be a dumb ass to drive like you did in the summer or even wipe off your damn car. I always pay special attention to those cars that only brush off their front and rear windshield - just barely for that matter because I want to see what a douche bag looks like.

One thing that news outlets never mention is the fact that once it snows, suddenly people forget how to too.

5 things you do that is shear stupidity while walking in snow

  1. You wear high heels
  2. You walk right in the middle of the sidewalk that is even less wide due to the snow banks on each side so you are basically in the way of everyone … and of course you walk slow or are also pulling some cart or wheeled bag
  3. You have no balance whatsoever as it takes an hour to walk over a slight patch of ice. People, it’s not that hard.
  4. You think that cars can stop and turn on a dime so you stand on the very edge of the corner of the sidewalk while waiting for the light to change (this can probably apply all year around - think bus mirror and your head)
  5. You use an umbrella when it snows (I’ll let old people get away with this but if you are under 40, forgetaboutit)

Any others to add?

Will it be Gigg or MicroDigg?

Rumour has it that both Google and Microsoft are on the verge of making an offer for the social news site Digg.

Google, Microsoft Said To Be Preparing Bids For Digg - TechCrunch

And despite a number of false starts, this time a sale looks like it might actually happen, and soon. We hear from a source very close to the deal that four companies are in heavy due diligence with Digg - two media/news companies, and two big Internet companies - Google and Microsoft. And Google and Microsoft are on the verge of making their bids.

Interesting developments and I love reading the comments on Digg about it. Obviously many are opposed to the idea of Digg “selling out”. How can you blame them for selling? My only problem with it is that it’s not me!
