I have lived in an apartment/condo for the last few years and have noticed a few annoying elevator moments that I am sure you all can relate to, in no particular order.

Heavy breathers – You just walked to the elevator from your apartment door so why are you breathing so deep and loud?

Close stander or weird facing direction stander – I guess people don’t understand the concept of personal space or know the rule of “face the direction of the elevator door”. It’s just creepy especially when they stand facing you!

Cell phone users – Self explanatory, worse when they are the loud talking type.

Overly polite but no common sense guy – There’s always some guy who maybe wants to impress everyone by holding the elevator door when exiting (like its going to close on people) and in doing so, actually end up blocking people from leaving since they are in the way. Use your brain buddy.

Too much Perfume/Cologne – Okay maybe I’ll excuse it on a club night, maybe. But not on a normal day. Your in a 5×5 box, it’s already stuffy. Now we have to be soaked by channel no 5.

BO guy/girl – See #5

Dog owners who don’t leash their dogs – I own a dog but at the same time, I know not everyone loves dogs and probably don’t want one jumping on them. Have some consideration!

Lazy people who get on/off at the 2nd floor – Unless you are 80, walk it down the stairs. Nothing more annoying then coming from a top floor and suddenly have to stop at the 2nd floor!

Hitting the already lit button – Haven’t you seen Speed? I guess they think the elevator needs reminding?!!?

The rusher – The elevator is about to close and some guy who rushes in and hits the elevator button thereby holding up everyone else who is already in elevator. Take it easy, get the next one. But then again, it is Toronto.

Have anymore?

You’ve seen it in variety and convenience stores and those glass fridges at take out food restaurants. The huge can of Arizona Ice Tea, 695 ml, and labeled right on it at great price of just 99 cents! Question is – have you ever gotten it for anywhere near 99 cents? Take it out of the fridge and ask the sales person if it’s 99 cents and they laugh at you, and just shrug when you point to the price.

I’ve seen it ranging from $1.59 to $1.99 (guessing tax not incl). I have a feeling it’s illegal to display a price and not honour it but whose gonna argue over around 5o cents?

Good news, found one store near where I live that sells it for $1.25 – tax incl. Pretty close to the advertised price. Anyone have better luck?

EDIT Sept. 6, 2008: Just got it for 99 cents at Canadian Tire of all places!

As some of you may or may not have heard, I recently canceled my Rogers Cable Television service. After doing some online research, found that there are many HD Over the Air (OTA) signals that are free for use if you have the right equipment can be setup very easily. The number of channels and signal strength depends on your location. The ideal location is if you have the ability to aim an antenna south with line of sight to the CN tower. Lucky for me, my apartment is up on the 18th floor and faces south, and I have some sight of the CN tower so I thought I would give this a shot after seeing that you can make a “HD antenna” using a piece of wood and coat hangers!

Things you need:

HD capable television (obviously)

If your HD tv does not have a built in ATSC tuner, you will need to buy a separate set top box. Ebay is a good place to find one for about $100.

Screws, coat hangers, piece of wood and maybe 20 minutes of your time

Follow the simple tutorial to build your own HD antenna:

Tutorial to build own antenna:

The final result (sorry about the quality….I had to take them with the camera phone):

Looks kind of ghetto but suprisingly works great.

Just about every sport looks great now.

In the end, I got 20 totally OTA channels with 12 in HD. Very happy with the results. Once you go HD, you can’t go back!
